Bionicle Tattoos - are you a true Bionicle fan?

    Bionicle Promo Tattoo

During the official release of the Bionicle line in Europe in early 2001, you may have been lucky enough to have picked up a few of the Toa in the local toy shops. Due to extensive advertising, the release saw widespread product shortages. Helping to promote the advert campain were the release of a few side goodies like key rings, mugs and caps. But the one that stands out from all of these is a set of 8 fake Bionicle tattoos from LEGOLAND Billund, Denmark, or from special LEGO shops in Germany.

This tattoo sheet (shown left) contains six of the standard Kanohi from the 2001 line, along with the two logos of the Bionicle products.

This is a perfect addition to the true Bionicle fan's collection. Although it would have been nice if an Infected Hau had been included on the sheet, as it's a main Kanohi of the island as well.

The tattoo sheets were found in some shops in Europe (mainly Germany) for a short time to promote the release of the line to world markets, and Europe was the starting point of the invasion of the good and evils.

But the tattoo didn't last long in the shops and LEGOLand because of a problem with the ingredient list: it wasn't there. The fault occured during packaging, which has been mentioned on LEGO.com's Bioncle Section.

Some users experienced allergic reactions to the product. LEGO promptly withdrew the remaining stock stright away to be destroyed, and advised users not to use the items in case of similar reactions.

In case you are wondering, the manmade chemicals in this product can leave people with a severe skin rash, the list is as follows.

Acrylic resin may contain the following colorants:

    • CI 77499
    • CI 19140
    • CI 15985
    • CI 42090
    • CI 15850
