Bionicle at Comic-Con Part III - The Movie!
Hot Bionicle NewsMonday, July 26th, 2004 at 2:38am by Mark, BZPower Reporter

Sunday was the last day for the World famous 2004 San Diego Comic-Con and just as last year, it was the most anticipated by Bionicle fans because today was the day the first peek at the new Bionicle 2 movie were shown to the public. BZPower was there and has the report for you first - WARNING! This story does contain spoilers at the VERY end!

As the room filled up to standing-room only capacity the excitement grew as the time was drawing near for the very first look at clips from Bionicle 2 were going to be shown and kids would have their questions answered. On the panel were the directors - David Molina and Terry Shakespeare. Comic and book writer (and BZP celeb) Greg F. Executive producers Jeffery Thaler and Bob Thompson, and Screenwriter Henry Gilroy. You can see these people in the picture below. Many questions were asked but one of the statements that were made that stood out was when they mentioned BZPower by name and said that some ideas for the movie were picked up from discussion forums like ours! I think thats really cool - knowing that our members helped to shape this movie!

In the pictures below you see the people who I named above who were in the discussion panel. The second picture is David Molina, Terry Shakespeare and Greg F signing posters for Bionicle 2. And the third picture is the famous Brian, who works in promotions at Lego.

Now is the time I am sure most of you are waiting for - details from the appx 20 minutes they showed of the film. WARNING! SPOILERS BELOW!

Now, on with the spoilers! BZP member Blue Mage was on hand and took the time to write an excellent write up on the previews, so with a few minor edits by BZP I now present you with his write up: (Keep in mind we only saw the movie clips one time and it went quick, so some of this MAY be off, we did our best to present everything that happened as best as we can).

Clip 1: (The very start of the movie)
This opens up as the camera is rushing towards the famous silhouette of Metru Nui. Then (Turaga) Vakama’s voice saying that in the time before time, the mighty Toa were thought to protect the Matoran. But an evil shadow kept eliminating them one by one and that shadow hungered for power over the entire city. *Title shot*. Opens with Lhikan activating the Toa Suva and creating the Toa stones. Nidhiki and Krekka soon rain in on his parade an Lhikan is forced to dive of the top of the temple. In mid fall he connects his tools an creates an Airboard which he rides around on delivering Toa Stones to each of the six Matoran. When he delivers the stone to Vakama he gets captured by Nidhiki and Krekka (Vakama was also working on making the Vahi when Lhikan comes in). While Lhikan is with Vakama Nidhiki and Krekka appear and capture Vakama and hold him over a pit and threaten to drop him if Lhikan does not surrender. Lihkan then surrenders and Vakama is dropped into the pit anyway but is saved when Lhikan kicks his Airboard down into the pit to save him. During all this Nidhiki calls Lhikan, “Brother,” and Lhikan replies, “You have no right to call me that anymore.” They take him away and Vakama escapes on Lhikan’s Airboard.

    Clip 2:
This one shows how all the chosen Matoran are transformed into Toa by placing the Stones in the Suva. Matau, in his excited state, dose the helicopter thing you all saw in the trailer. But what you didn’t see was him crashing into a pole face first. Nokama sighs.

    Clip 3:
This one simply shows how they got the Great Disks.

    Clip 4:
Shows them presenting the great disks to Turaga Dume, who says a toa is not proved by presenting gifts and calls them traitors and impostors and tells them to prove themselfs as real Toa by making it thru a raging sea of protodermius. The Toa fail and then Turaga Dume sends a whole swarm of Vahki to attack them, as well as making the ground turn against them. And don’t forget the tornado. All the Toa get bounce around by the ground then swept up by the tornado. Vakama crushed the Vahki by making the big Lhikan statue fall on them. As Dume walks away he turns to the Dark Hunters and says, “We can not let them interfere with the plan.”

    Clip 5:
The Toa are walking in the sculpture field when the Dark Hunters attack. But they soon flee when a herd of stampeding Kikanalos charges at them and at the Toa. Nokama discovers her mask power and translates the Kikanalos talk and they question if the Toa are with their enimies the Dark Hunters. When Nokama tells the Kikanalo they are not with the Dark Hunters and the Dark Hunters are their enemy they tell the Toa they are free to pass.

    Clip 6:
This one was a doozy. It opens up with a shot of what looks like Ultimate Dume. The Toa along with (what looked like) Turaga Lhikan are on a boat in the Protodermis Sea and Ultimate Dume is raising columns of protodermis to try and trap them. Nuju uses his telekinesis to lift Vakama to the platform where Ultimate Dume is standing. Ultimate Dume tries to make Vakama join him and when he doesn’t, Ultimate Dume makes a huge shadowy hand reach for Vakama. Vakama puts on the Vahi and slows it down, but can’t stop it. When its about to grab him, (What looks like) Turaga Lhikan throws (what looks like) his Airboard into the hand to grab it instead, making Ultimate Dume scream out in pain when he absorbs it, and causing a blast that causes the Vahi to fly off and it looked like it went into the sea. Ultimate Dume jumps up to go after the Vahi and that is all we saw. Discuss This Story
