    BZPower's 3rd Birthday Observed
BZPowerTuesday, July 20th, 2004 at 2:45am by Rich, BZPower Administrator
    [Source: Bionicle Rex, Binkmeister, Dimensioneer]

It's now July 20. As many of you know, this is the day we celebrate BZP's anniversary. Of course we have some surprises planned, and you'll be seeing those over the next few days. But first, a time to reflect on the greatness of BZP. Read on.

Of course BZPower really didn't start 3 years ago today, its actually several months older. BZPower is the product of a merge between Kanohi-Power.com and BZCommunity.com. BZCommunity.com started on July 20, 2001, the day we celebrate, but Kanohi-Power originally consisted of Xtian's Bionicle Corner and Bionicle Island, which were around before Bionicle even hit the United States. From early 2001, BZPower and its roots have been the longest-lived and most successful 100% Bionicle website on the net.

On July 20, 2001 BZPower Admin Dimensioneer started a little forum called BionicleZone. It was hosted on his small private server, and less than a few dozen people joined over the first couple of weeks. Fast-forward 3 years, thousands of man hours, a million plus posts, 21,000 members, and you have the BZPower you know today.

Owning a website and making it last 3 years is certainly an achievement. In an era when websites come and go as quickly as their funding comes and goes, you have to wonder what made BZP last so long.

    Several factors:

    1) The members. Every member just like you, who posts or finds an interest in BZP has been the driving force all along. Especially the premier members who contribute financially to the well-being of BZP are a major reason why we are here. Without members like you there would be no reason to put any content on BZP at all.

    2) The staff. BZPower has, always did have, and always will have the best staff on the net. Bionicle tends to attract the best and the brightest of youngsters, and the best of the best are chosen to be staff on BZPower. Without the intelligent men and women that help run BZP, whether it be the mods, news writers, or other contributors, BZPower would not nearly be as great as it is today

    3) The LEGO Company. Throughout the years TLC had always been very supportive of BZP and what we try to do here. Just about every person in the company, from the cellar of Brand Retail to the suits of the executive offices, for the most part we have had nothing but complete cooperation from those in the company who respect BZP for what it does for the children that buy the products they create.

    4) The BZP admins. I don't mind putting myself on the back here. Three adult men, with very busy lives and families, went through the trouble of maintaining this website each and every day for 3 years. That's a very easy task for the comic geek with nothing better to do but show off, but for men with other responsibilities, running an empire like this is not easy. It took a lot of hard work, immense dedication, a lot of difficult decisions, and time. But we made it, and therefore, you still have BZPower to surf each and every day.

Because of the dedication of all the above, BZP is now the world's #1 LEGO-based web community. That's nothing to take lightly, so we're celebrating.

First thing you'll notice is that we have upgraded the forum software. As you browse the forum the changes are small, but for the admins the backend changes make it much easier for us to run the BZP forums

There will be much more coming on later today and in the forthcoming days as we all celebrate this three-year BZP milestone.
