Discuss This Story Hot Bionicle NewsFriday, June 11th, 2021 at 5:08am by Jason, BZPower Reporter

We’re still doing coverage for the Preliminary round of Bio-Cup 2021. Bohrok were a very popular medium to remix, so this will feature a few more entries from the swarms, as well as a couple of other evil recreations. (Oh, and a few that just didn’t get categorized in the previous stories.) Read on to check out the MOCs.

    Spaceman Bienny by Drthresh

    Spaceman Bienny

This is another quintessential remix, and I’m surprised there aren’t more space-themed Bionicle characters in this contest. This MOC expertly captures the iconic minifigure at a constraction scale, from the clever helmet, took box, robotic arm, and the ingenious recreation of the space logo with a rubber band and straw hat. This guy is certain to explore the cosmos in style.

Antrox, the Twisted Flesh by Blue Moon Mocist (Ezreel)

    Antroz, the Twisted Flesh

This Makuta has gone all in on the tendril appearance. He very much looks like a parasitic entity growing out of the back of a Matoran corpse. And given the mask trophies he’s collected, he’s quite powerful too. I especially like how the tridax pod is incorporated into the build. Very creepy.

Icarax, The Shadow in The Sky by AjRed17

Icarax, The Shadow in The Sky

One thing we don’t see much in this contest is a transition from character to architecture, but it is done quite well here. The fortress itself looks quite impressive with the fancy land designs over lava, the spikey bridge, and menacing tower. There are still some nice callbacks to the original set, from the mask and tridax pod to the general color scheme. I’m sure the boss music would begin to play if you approached this castle!

    Underground Idol Roodaka by Prhymus

    Underground Idol Roodaka

I wasn’t expecting to see Roodaka as a pop star, but this really works. The Pakari torso brings this together quite well, and I like the red skirt to match. The rest of the model is quite smooth and the pose totally fits for an idol singer. And on top of that, her fanboy Visorak have some simple but clever designs. I wonder what song she’s going to perform next.

    Desolator by Bodi Delgrosse

    Desolator

The redesigned Cordak blaster was not necessarily one of the ideas I expected to see. The very greeble-heavy legs work well for this mobile weapon, and the detailing of the barrels does resemble the projectile launchers from the sets. But honestly the best part of this MOC is the shooting effects with the trans orange pieces; it gives this a sense of action.

    Hive Rider by ballomnomnom

    Hive Rider

If you’re a Bohrok Va in a hurry, then of course you’ll want to get around in style. While the Kohrok Va has a neat design that expands on the original small set, the cycle is the real highlight; I especially like how the weapons are incorporated into the "head" of the vehicle, and the tire orientation on the front is very creative.

    Gahdok the Bahrag by alex_mocs

    Gahdok the Bahrag

Per the Queen’s suggestion, why don’t you just try on this krana and see how it goes. It’s a nice rendition of a Bahrag Queen, and I particularly like the Furno eagle helmet and the Batman tiles used on the torso. The pose is nice too; I feel like it’s subtly intimidating.

    Bahrag Remix by BetaNotus

    Bahrag Remix

Cahdok and Gahdok return, but this time there’s something a little different about them; now they’re Faced Mecha. Despite the drastic change in structure, there’s a lot to recall their original designs, like their toothy mouths and color schemes. Yes, perhaps they are a bit goofier now, but you know you wouldn’t want to see these two leading a Bohrok swarm towards you.

    Onirok by AlexParkDesigns

    Onirok

The Bohrok are back! This one instead takes their rounded shape and runs with it, by making it an armored sphere with arms and blades. The krana is nicely displayed beneath the head, and I particularly like the dark gray Huna masks on the knees. You better not get in the way of this samurai.

    Exogen Destroyer vs Shin Gahdok

    Exogen Destroyer vs Shin Gahdok

The climatic fight is about to begin; the robot challenger has the gusto, but it might still be outclassed by this massive Kaiju. This is a great imagining of the Exo-Toa and Bahrag. The former has a very sleek design for such a small scale, but the Mata foot as the body and the blaster elements along the legs just work. Gahdok is impressively sized and has a nice flow of elements and good color blocking, and the head design is splendid. Will be fun to see who would win this matchup. (My money is on Gahdok, who looks like they could snap that robot in half like a twig.)

    Nidhiki, the Mistake by Djokson

    Nidhiki, the Mistake

It seems to be expected that Djokson would include some sort of mutation MOC here, and this one lives up to the hype. The clever uses of the green pins in the tires really sells the idea of some sort of weird infection, and the insect-like appearance works well with the legs, body, and wing, although there’s some normal parts of the Toa that are still sticking around, so the mutation is probably still in progress. Very creepy but well done!

    Xenomorph Rakshi by Gamma-Raay

    Xenomorph Rakshi

This is taking two scary creatures from two franchises and merging them together into one nightmare. This creature has the basic structure of a Rahkshi complete with the organic texture of a xenomorph that flows quite well. I particularly like the use of the purple snake element to recreate its inner mouth. A well built horror!

There have been some great entries, and I look forward to seeing who advances and what other cool creations they make in the next rounds. Stay tuned to BZPower for more featured MOCs from the contest!
