BrickFair VA 2013 is a few days away, and if you live within a 3 hour drive of any LEGO convention I would argue you should make the trip to visit or attend said nearby convention. Why? Because attending such an event is one of the most fun things you will do with your year! You'll make new friends, get to truly geek out, and grab some exclusive LEGO gear not found in stores. Still need a little convincing on why a day-trip or full-weekend vacation is worth your time? Read on. Talk Back in our Forums  Read Full Story

    It is canon

The BZPower staff would like to offer a warmhearted congratulations to Toa Lhikan Hordika and Turakii #1 Lavasurfer on their recent marriage! Vance and Christie, respectively, were wed on Sunday, July 28, 2013, and some of their closest BZPower friends attended to share the joy. They are honeymooning at BrickFair this week in Virginia and are enjoying themselves as they see the DC sights. Read on for some pictures of the new couple, and please join us in celebrating this new made-in-LEGO union. Talk Back in our Forums  Read Full Story

    BZPower The BZPowercast Turns Four!
July is almost over, and before I get completely caught up in BrickFair fun, I figured I should post the next episode of the BZPowercast. You can download it right here or pick it up via iTunes or RSS. Here's a preview of what you can expect:
Episode 49 marks four years of the BZPowercast - hoorah! This month we start off by bringing back Than the Moa to subject him to a Staff Interview. Then Windrider comes by to do a How-To BZP about all the awesome Anniversary fun. Emzee joins us after that to talk about the recently-held Brick Fiesta event in Dallas, Texas. And things close off with another dramatic comic reading from Hahli Husky and Janus. Happy Anniversary BZPower!

Hot Bionicle News Real-Life LEGO Construction Ideas
At some point I think we've all wished we could build full-size structures out of giant LEGO blocks. Dark Roasted Blend's compilation of LEGO-themed architecture and construction projects shows us exactly what that would look like. We may have covered one or two of these in the past, but it's worth giving the entire collection a look. Talk Back in our Forums

    BZPower Warning: BrickFair Impending
There's less than a week until BrickFair Virginia! If you haven't already registered, there's still time, and you can at least come to the public expo on Saturday, August 3rd and Sunday, August 4th from 11AM to 4PM. You can also still buy tickets to our Laser Tag and Pizza Party on Saturday evening which should be a blast. And don't forget the free concert by Nervous Pudding on Sunday at noon. Both are open to everyone whether or not you're at the full convention. I'm super-excited and can't wait to see you all there! Talk Back in our Forums

Whew, what a crazy and fun week it's been. I hope you've all enjoyed our Anniversary celebrations and the announcements we've made. The list of what happened is too long to even fit on the front page, so you'll have to read on to see what took place. Talk Back in our Forums  Read Full Story

Hot Bionicle News Free Concert at BrickFair
    [Source: Princess Grr]
Going to BrickFair Virginia next week? Happen to live in Northern Virginia? Well it just so happens then that you're going to be in the perfect spot for an awesome concert! BZPower Members Windrider, Princess Grr, Comrade Gato, and Calles are also members of the rock band Nervous Pudding, and they're putting on a show for you all. This free concert will take place at noon on Sunday, August 4th at E.C. Lawrence Park Amphitheater. The venue's address is 5040 Walney Rd, Chantilly VA, about two miles away from BrickFair. If you don't have a car, fret not, the band is providing a shuttle service from BrickFair to the venue - just contact Princess Grr, aka Andrew (not me) in advance of the show. They're putting on this free show as a special gift for BZPower Members and BrickFair attendees (although it's open to anyone) - I hope a lot of you can make it! Talk Back in our Forums

BZPower has long had a very rigid and stringent advertising policy limiting what our members could link to on the site. There are several reasons for this, but primarily we want BZPower to be a family-friendly place, and lets be honest, a lot of stuff on the Internet isn't very family-friendly. But still, times change, and BZPower must be dragged kicking and screaming into the future. That's why today we're announcing a major overhaul to our advertising policy and some new functionality on the site to help us keep our family-friendly focus. Hot Bionicle News Brick Fiesta 2013 Wrapup
    [Source: Emzee]
BZPower Forum Assistant Emzee hung out at Brick Fiesta a couple weeks ago and decided to share some of his thoughts:
Brick Fiesta 2013 was a blast! This convention (taking place near Dallas, TX) had lots of vendors, cool MOCs, and some great people. It was odd how many people here actually remembered me from 2011 in Austin (they must have really good memory). I got to catch up with Kevin Hinkle, attend his Q&A session, meet the Austin chapter of TexLUG, watch some Mindstorms robots fight each other, and take home a free Legend of Chima prize (the Chima marketing team had a booth here instead of LEGO representatives). Take a look through my Dropbox folder to see pictures and videos that I took.
Sounds like a fun time, wish I could have been there! Talk Back in our Forums

Hot Bionicle News An Unexpected Auction
    [Source: cnet.com]
How much would you pay for a rare LEGO minifigure? How about a minifigure of Azog, the Pale Orc, from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey? Well, of the 100 that were handed out at this week's San Diego Comic Con, a single Azog minifig has collectors bidding upwards of $1,525 in one ongoing Ebay auction, while others are currently selling for $800-$900. This continues a trend of high-value minifigs, with the recent Mr. Gold figure selling for nearly $1,000 in recent days. Sound interesting? Click here for a full article and for links to the auctions, and enjoy the madness. Talk Back in our Forums

    BZPower New Member Policy Removed
For the last few years, BZPower has had a policy in place requiring the first five posts (originally ten) of all new members to be approved before they are able to utilize all the features BZPower has to offer. Today it brings me great pleasure to announce that we will no longer be requiring new user to go through this process. New accounts will still be approved by the Administration, but once activated they will be free to post as they see fit. I appreciate the patience of all our new members in the past few years and hope that this change will help encourage more discussion on the forums. Talk Back in our Forums

    BZPower BZPower Archive Update
Earlier this year we began to have some problems with our Archives, the instance of the old forums with all the posts from before the recent major upgrade. This was in part due to a malicious individual who deleted parts of the database as well as several backups that were stored on our server. The Administration has done our best to try to restore things, but there's still a lot of missing content that I'm afraid no longer exists. In addition, the software that keeps the archives running has become outdated and insecure, and may be part of how portions of the site were hacked recently. With all this in mind, we have made the decision to close down the Archives and move forward, focusing on our new forums and the future of BZPower. It was not an easy decision, but in the end, there was not much we could do. On behalf of the Administration, I'm truly sorry that we have to do this, but I'm hoping everyone can understand the reasons behind our decision. Talk Back in our Forums

BZPower LEGO City Undercover Games Up for Grabs
I think it's safe to say the big LEGO game for this year is LEGO City Undercover for the Wii U along with its prequel LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begin for the 3DS. LEGO has graciously given BZPower a copy of each game to give away to some lucky members and what better time to do that than during our anniversary? Head over to our new raffle section to enter to win the game on the platform of your choice! Talk Back in our Forums

BrickFair Virginia is almost here, so what better time to report on the previous BrickFair, which took place in New England. Better late than never, I always say. Anyway, Manchester, New Hampshire was home to the first major AFOL convention in the Northeast, and the fans turned out a-plenty. There was a great turnout, especially among Bionicle fans, which was one of the best-represented themes there. The public presence wasn't as good as we would have hoped, but everyone still had a lot of fun. To get an idea of what was on display - read on! Talk Back in our Forums  Read Full Story

    BZPower Win Stuff on BZPower
It's time for more anniversary fun! We like to try to introduce something new each anniversary to celebrate another year of BZPower. This time around, we're introducing a raffle system to make it easier to give stuff away. The first set we'll be raffling off is the 75019 AT-TE, which has been graciously donated by LEGO. If you want a shot at it, tickets are $1 each, and you can buy more for a greater chance to win! The money will go to covering the cost of the raffle system and supporting BZPower's ongoing server costs. Good luck everyone! Talk Back in our Forums

Global Moderator Hahli Husky has officially gone insane and has agreed to host a forum-wide conglomeration of contests covering almost every creative thing we could think of (sorry, no interpretive dance). There will, however, be building (constraction and system), writing, drawing, composing, directing, comicing (is that a word?), and game-making. Prefer to keep your creative endeavors outside the realm of LEGO? You can participate too! LEGO has donated some awesome prizes, so you'll definitely want to enter. Hot Bionicle News LEGO 3D Printer
    [Source: TechHive]
More and more, we find, if it exists, there's probably a LEGO version of it. You may have heard of 3D printers--machines that can make objects out of plastic or similar substances from 3D computer models. One individual by the name of Matthew Krueger has constructed a 3D printer made completely from LEGO bricks, entitled "Legobot". Legobot uses candy or glue to make its creations, and unfortunately it is quite limited in what it can do. However, it's quite an interesting creation, and you can see it here.
