    Set Review: 41504 Seismo
ReviewFriday, March 14th, 2014 at 3:23pm by Andrew, BZPower News Manager
    [Source: Makaru]

Mixels are the new thing from LEGO this year - cute little impulse sets with an element of collectibility. Today BZPower Forum Leader Makaru takes a look at Seismo, one of the Cragster Mixels. Is she adorable enough to stay together or are you just buying her for the new ball joints? Read on to find out!

    Presentation
From the design of the box to the instruction manual, these are the first things you see before building the set.

Okay so check this gal out. Seismo comes in this bag style that we've been getting more and more of lately. Kinda in between the size of the smaller Hero Factory sets and the minifig polybags. Look at the her dancing here, backdropped by what looks like a setpiece from the old Roadrunner cartoons.

Above her is the Mixels logo with appropriate googly eye, as well as the cartoon rendition of our hero thing with the Cartoon Network logo below. The standard legal is on the left side.

The back side shows the other Cragsters and their max form, with a splash of the other available Mixels. We also have the link to the Mixels site where you can play some basic games, minigame style. The giant price sticker is courtesy of the Canadian Lego store.

The instructions are pretty standard, but it also shows a better look at series one of the mixels and pretty cool previews of the next few series. I'm liking the orange and purple ones.

    Building
Half the fun is had building the set. How fun is it to build and how easy or challenging is it?

My only advice is to not blink. Building Seismo is pretty basic, so you could easily miss putting her together. It's fun, but very quick.

    Set Design
Now that the set is complete, we can critique how it looks from every angle. New or interesting pieces can also be examined here.

Usually these little kits are forgettable, but Seismo's special. For the few pieces she has, she has a lot of character. I love the asymmetrical build, the one eye and the big stompers.

The big news is the new ball joint system. It's everything we've dreamed of. It's fully compatible with the old ball hitch pieces.

We've also got a good selection of grey and black pieces for the rocky appearance, nifty gold greebles and the keen flat google eye piece.

    Playability
The other half of the fun is in playing with the set. How well does the set function and is it enjoyable to play with?

For the supreme lack of actual posability, there's a lot of fun poses you can put her in.

    Final Thoughts
Once it's all said and done, how does the set stack up? Should I get it?

    Pros
    What's to like?

    • Really cool rocky appearance
    • Nifty, interesting design
    • Get a load of them ball pieces
    • As of writing this, Lego hasn't actually assigned a gender so I can call her a girl all I want.

    Cons
    What's not to like?

    • Limited articulation
    • Really easy to build, even for the age range

Seismo was the first Mixel I wanted to pick up, and now I have her. I haven't checked out the cartoon, but I imagine there will be shenanigans aplenty to enjoy.

Big thanks to Makaru for putting this review together - be sure to thank him yourself in the Talkback. This is just one of twenty-seven Mixels coming out this year, so be sure to keep checking back on BZPower for more Mixel and other LEGO set reviews and tons of news!
