ReviewSaturday, September 10th, 2011 at 10:12am by Andrew, BZPower News Manager
    [Source: Sisen]

I bring you another review today from our prolific Forum Assistant Sisen. This time he takes a look at a smaller set from the Star Wars line - the Clone Trooper Battle Pack. Should you pick up one (or more) of these to augment your clone army? You'll just have to read on to find out!

    Presentation
From the design of the box to the instruction manual, these are the first things you see before building the set.

This is a fairly small box for a set, but not as small as you can go. The box art is nice and shows off the speeding speeder and Clone Troopers running into combat. There is even a Trooper shown at actual size on front of the box.

On the back of the box the Troopers are shown fighting against their enemies from the Mandalorian battle pack. Do not let the size of the set fool you though. There is a lot of fun to be had with the Clone Trooper Battle Pack!

    Building
Half the fun is had building the set. How fun is it to build and how easy or challenging is it?

There is not much in the box, but that is not always a bad thing. You get a nice batch of pieces and four nice mini-figs to start you off.

Building the set was a lot of fun... you could even say it built itself. There is not a whole lot to build but it goes together quite easily. It was actually so easy to build I was led to have a little fun creative fun by having the Troopers put together the speeder bike themselves.

Of course you always run into work when you have hired help... You never quite know when someone is going to stop and sunbathe, or pretend they have adamantium claws.

Putting together the set is relatively simple but sometime simple things are fun. It is a fun build and leaves you with a pretty nice speeder bike in the end.

    Set Design
Now that the set is complete, we can critique how it looks from every angle. New or interesting pieces can also be examined here.

There is not a whole lot to say about the set design. You have a limited amount of parts, but the come together quite nicely. The set really makes a great addition to any Star Wars collection or battle scenes you want to act out.

The bike has a nice streamlined design that appears pretty aerodynamic. My favorite part has to be how the control system was attached to the set. It was a very creative way to use pieces and make things different.

    Playability
The other half of the fun is in playing with the set. How well does the set function and is it enjoyable to play with?

Considering this is called the Clone Trooper Battle Pack it is clear it is meant to be used in addition to other Star Wars sets. However, I had a lot of fun just playing with this standalone. It is not about the pieces or sets you have, but what fun you can have with them. This makes a nice addition to any Star Wars or LEGO collection.

I'm not quite sure the Speeder Bike supports more than one person... Then again I'm not sure it was meant to be used to run over your comrades either...

    Final Thoughts
Once it's all said and done, how does the set stack up? Should I get it?

    Pros
    What's to like?

    • Four Minifigs
    • Orange Minifigs
    • RECREATING ENDOR SPEEDER BIKE RACES

    Cons
    What's not to like?

    • Lack of features and other components.

The set would probably have been a little more fun had there been more elements included. The Mandalorian Battle Pack had turrets and a small skiff for three or four of its minifigs. All together this is not a bad set, but it would work better with more elements.

And so concludes our review. Thanks again to Sisen for putting this together and sharing his thoughts with everyone. Of course there will be more reviews down the road, so keep checking back for those and all the latest LEGO and Bionicle news, right here on BZPower!
