Hot Bionicle NewsFriday, April 19th, 2002 at 3:52pm by Kelly, BZPower Co-Owner

Toa Nuva with weapons "Bionicle: The Mask of Light" will be a 70-minute, CGI-animated direct-to-video feature, scheduled for release in September 2003.

Currently being written by Henry Gilroy and Greg Wiseman, the film will be produced by Creative Capers Entertainment, whose credits include "The Tigger Movie" for Disney and "The Pagemaster" for 20th Century Fox. According to a news release on Animation World Network, "The island's spirit has been placed into a deep sleep by a jealous sibling called Makuta, and as a result the island is crumbling into ruin. With the help of the Toa, three young islanders must use the Mask of Light to end Makutas dominance."

"The Mask of Light" implies a new mask, or set of masks, to be released in the Summer/Fall of 2002 or early 2003.

A promotional still was released with the story (left) and features Tahu Nuva with his lava surfboard (or double sword?). We also see the rest of the Toa Nuva's masks, although they are very small. This is the first released image of all six Toa Nuva and their weapons. You can probably expect to see more of these with the special poster and stickers being released with The Dandy magazine (see KP story on poster and stickers).
