Villain Bracket Commentary Round One Part One
OpinionMonday, August 28th, 2023 at 7:26am by Jason, BZPower Reporter

    Villain Banner Image

We're two and a half weeks into our Villain Bracket, and it's time to peak at some of the numbers. So far, we've gotten 85 responses that show some expected results and a few surprises. Read on to see my analysis of the polls so far. (And we have more than a few close races, so if you haven't already, make sure to get your vote in!)

    Current Lead Tallies

    • 6 Bohrok
    • 5 Piraka
    • 4 Rahkshi
    • 4 08 Makuta
    • 3 Barraki
    • 2 Bohrok-Kal
    • 1 Visorak
    • 1 Glatorian
    • 1 Stars
    • 0 Vahki
    • 0 Gen 2

This is a tally of the characters who have decent leads at this point, although there are a few close races that aren't included in this yet. It's easy to see that nostalgia is winning the day as all six Bohrok have a healthy lead to get into the next round. The Piraka, Rahkshi and 08 Makuta are also putting up good shows. Meanwhile, the Glatorian and Bohrok-Kal are only squeezing a few by. (And the Visorak and Stars progress because their double booked on two options.) Meanwhile, no Vahki or Gen 2 sets have established a clear lead, although a few Vahki are in some close races.

    Clear Winners

    Round 1 Commentary 1 View 1

It's fun that every set has gotten some votes, but there are a few rounds where there's a clear lead. The Bohrok have proven to be especially popular, and the Nuhvok here is running with the most votes for a single character so far. Inversely, that means the Skull Scorpio of Gen 2 has the fewest votes, only squeezing out 8.

    Round 1 Commentary 1 View 2

The Lehvak was the most owned Bohrok according to Brickset, and thus it's no surprise that its clearly beating out the Gen 2 Storm Beast, the latter who only has managed 9 votes.

    Round 1 Commentary 1 View 3

Lo and behold, the third front runner is another Bohrok, the iconic Tahnok. The Gen 2 Lava Beast pulled in 11 votes, but it's not enough to challenge the fiery Bohrok.

    Close Races

    Round 1 Commentary 1 View 4

The Vahki and Visorak have not been performing well, so these two look like a bottom-of-the-barrel choices that are fairly evenly split. The Vorzakh has a slight lead, possibly bringing the only Vahki victory here?

    Round 1 Commentary 1 View 5

Both the Rahkshi and Makuta have been well liked, but Gorast isn't popular enough to completely dominate this poll yet. Kurahk still has a chance.

    Round 1 Commentary 1 View 6

Two dark, evil characters are quite the match up. I would've thought Mantax would have an easy victory, but the Skrall is a single vote ahead. This match could go either way.

    Round 1 Commentary 1 View 7

Stronius has a single vote lead, but the Bordakh Vahki is giving him a run for his money. Perhaps the Vahki can pull off a last minute upset here?

    Round 1 Commentary 1 View 8

The Piraka and Barraki have both proven to be popular, and these two similarly colored characters are about an even match. Avak leads by only a couple of points, but Carapar could easily catch up. Brown / Yellow sets may not have been the best sellers, but one of these two is going to win by some means!

Thanks again for reading. Round 1 will continue on for another few weeks to make sure everybody has a chance to get their picks in. And then we're up for another set of interesting match ups for Round 2! Can't wait!
