    BZPower's Best Bionicle Villain Bracket
BZPowerThursday, August 10th, 2023 at 3:08am by Jason, BZPower Reporter

    Villain Banner Image

Happy 810nicle Day. Our little treat today is to launch a new voting bracket. Only this time, instead of looking at our favorite heroes from across Bionicle, we'll pick out our favorite villains, at least those at the canister set price levels. The first round is now live, and voting will last for a month. Read on for some more details and a selection of interesting rounds to keep an eye on. And stay tuned to BZPower to see the results and vote in future rounds!

    Image of Villain Bracket

This time around, we are doing six rounds of single elimination votes between two characters at a time. (Yes, like a traditional bracket, no three choices this time.) 64 villain sets have been picked out of those who were priced as canister sets in their respective years. We have the Bohrok, the Bohrok Kal, the Rahkshi, the Vahki, the Visorak, the Piraka, the Barraki, the 08 Makuta, select Glatorian, the Skull Warriors, the Elemental Beasts, and a few others who made the mark. 64 will enter, but only one can be chosen as the best. Who will it be?

The ranks for each set are determined by the number of owners listed on BrickSet. The Bohrok and Rahkshi rank as the highest, which is predictable since they were in the most popular era of the theme. Below them are a mix of the Vahki, Barraki, and Piraka. The lower half of the list generally consists of the Visorak, 08 Makuta, and Bohrok Kal, with the Glatorian and Stars sets mixed in. Unsurprisingly, the Gen 2 sets are at the very bottom of the list, just because fewer people claimed to have bought them. Oh well.

There are some interesting pair-ups in the first round. Below are some that stood out to me.

    Option 7

Chirox may have been the most popular 2008 Makuta canister set, but the yellow Rahkshi Stars actually ranks above him. Will the Master or the Creation succeed here?

    Option 13

Panrahk and Roporak go head to head, to see which brown copy of their respective wave has the better chance. The Visorak has some nice red pieces that might give him a boost, but the Rahkshi were still quite popular, so the spider may up fragmented.

    Option 15

Keelerak and Suukorak go head to head in the first bracket that pits two villains from the same wave against each other. It's a toss up, although the Keelerak had the last lime sockets that weren't fragile.

    Option 18

The Stars sets were more popular than I expected; they're in the middle of the ranks when I expected them to be closer to the bottom. Still, the arrangement of the numbers now means only one of these two will progress; which will it be?

    Option 21

Another Makuta and Rahkshi face off. Both Kurahk and Gorast were known to be quite angry; who will be the most upset when they lose?

    Option 25

Another elemental match-up sees the Tahnok against the Lava Beast, pitting sets from both ends of the Bionicle spectrum. Will the modern designs on the Lava Beast help him beat one of the more iconic Bohrok?

    Option 29

The Rahkshi continue to face off against their makers. Will Vorahk consume Bitil's energy, or will the Makuta call out his past selfs to help beat on this spawn of his? I guess we'll have to see.

    Option 30

Two leaders face off as Pridak challenges Antroz. The Barraki wasn't the top of his class while the Makuta ranks higher than most of his peers; will it be enough to give him an upset?

    Option 31

Yet another elemental match up as the two "brown" sets from 2006 and 2007 meet up. They can't both progress, so who will move on?

I'm excited to see what the results will be like. This bracket is being run just for fun and to promote some discussion of our theme twenty plus years later. Let us know your predictions and choices, and make sure to select your picks too. And then let us see who comes out on top.

For the full breakdown you can view the results page on Google to see how all the Toa are doing.
