Thursday, July 20th, 2023 at 4:55am by Jason, BZPower Reporter
We have now reached the Semi-Final Round of Bio-Cup 2023. The theme was Punk, specifically Cyberpunk, Dieselpunk, and Steampunk. There were a ton of amazing models builds yet again, showing the MOCists going strong even this late in the game. Read on to see the MOCs and hear about the finalists!
Soul-Weaver Surrogate // 1111 by Kat's Koncepts Subtheme: Cyberpunk
Oh no, the bots are on the move! The big bug has some near leg designs and an especially cool head, and he's attacking a building with some fun architectural designs to it. Although I think it goes without saying that the mini bots still manage to steal the show here!
Core by Tino Poutiainen Subtheme: Cyberpunk
I like the visuals of the white silhouette surrounded by the gritty machinery with plenty of gears and piston shafts and such. Among other cool design choices, I like how the old and new grays work off one another, a difficult feat.
Urdur by VB Subtheme: Cyberpunk
Yet another character with its insides on its outside. The pink tentacles really stand out, but the legs and torso also have some really intricate designs to it, and the whole thing has a creepy feel too. And this canine takes the top spot for Cyberpunk!
Sludge Runner by Ryan Z Subtheme: Dieselpunk
This protective suit looks adequately bulky, protecting the user from all sorts of nasty stuff. There are a lot of fun details like the knees, the gas nozzle, and the back tank, but I am also impressed by the clever sticker usage, including the eyes on the head.
Diesel Punk by Djokson Subtheme: Dieselpunk
This guy is definitely a mix of diesel and punk. I like the super snazzy jacket over his open rib cage, and the pistons built into his crazy head is really fun. Also, that gas canister works so well!
Ember Legion: Sentinel by alex_mocs Subtheme: Dieselpunk
This character has some amazing parts usage, from the backpacks on the chest to the hoop element on the head to the Duplo gas container. The gritty color scheme also works quite well with the theme. It makes for a worthy winner for Dieselpunk.
The Walkable City by Student Scissors Subtheme: Steampunk
It's another walking city, but this time with a steampunk vibe. There are a lot of great details here, from the large mask base, the Slizer / Roborider gear elements on the legs, the clock tower built around a dice piece, or the steam engine on the raised track. Looks like a fun place to explore!
Lofi Paperwork Doing Steampunk Masterbuilder Guy by pierthviv Subtheme: Steampunk
Someone is busy writing down their thoughts. This force perspective MOC has all sorts of fantastic design choices mixed in. The character has some very subtle designs on his face, and even his headphones are steampunk. Meanwhile his desk has a lot of fun features, like the rotary phone and decorative chair. The background also showcases a bustling city with a lot of good parts used, the best of which is the Akaku mask as smokestacks. A lot of good stuff here!
The Wingnut Crew by Eero Okkonen Subtheme: Steampunk
What's better than one steampunk themed character? How about three! All of these guys have a lot of character and sleek designs, from the wing armor to blue shell dress to the interesting drill bit. The characters all have their own distinctive color schemes and styles, but still look like they fit together as a team. There can only be one Steampunk winner, and this crew deserves the prize.
That's it for our coverage of Bio-Cup Semi-Finals. The Final Round has just started, with VB, alex_mocs, and Eero Okkonen going head to head for the top prize. Who will win it this year, and what will they make? We'll know for sure when the round ends in a few weeks, so make sure to check back on BZPower to see the results!
