Toa Bracket Commentary Round Two Part One
OpinionMonday, February 13th, 2023 at 4:03am by Jason, BZPower Reporter

We're about halfway through the month, and we've gotten 96 votes for the second round of the Best Bionicle Toa Bracket. This seems like as good a time as any to check out the specs and do some amateur analysis. Read on to see how your favorite Toa is doing so far!

    Round 2 Commentary 1 View 1

Since the number of Options has decreased significantly this round, we'll take a look at each one individually. Tahu Mata is dominating with 65 votes. (This is actually the most votes any single Toa has gotten this round.) Norik and Whenua did well previously, but they don't stand a chance against the figurehead of the theme. (Whenua actually has the unfortunate distinction of having the least amount of votes for an individual Toa with only 10.) I think it's a safe bet that Tahu will progress. (Funny, given that this is the only Tahu variant who made it to the second round.)

    Round 2 Commentary 1 View 2

It didn't take us long to get to a near three way tie. Lewa Mata has a mild lead with 36 votes, but Iruini is right behind him with 32 votes, and Vakama is bringing in 29 himself. This could go either way easily. Lewa has the nostalgia factor in his favor, but Iruini absolutely dominating his first round so he's got popularity too. And the ol' firespitter Vakama is a classic favorite of the Metru, which was the most successful Toa Team in Round 1. This one will be a nail biter, I'm sure.

    Round 2 Commentary 1 View 3

Hahli Mahri has a slight lead with 46 votes, but Kopaka Masters (the only Gen 2 set to make it to Round 2) is not too far behind with 34 votes. Krakua had somewhat of a surprise win last round, but it doesn't look like he can compete against these two.

    Round 2 Commentary 1 View 4

Kopaka Mata is also dominating his round with 64 votes, and given that he is the second most owned Toa it's no surprise that people like him. (And since it's always a competition between the two, Kopaka is only trailing one vote behind Tahu. Earlier in the round Kopaka had more votes individually, so that could happen again.) Gali Nuva and Jaller Inika were not terrible sets, but they clearly can't compete with the Mata.

    Round 2 Commentary 1 View 5

Takanuva 2003 is another figurehead of the theme, one of the characters people think about when they consider Bionicle. So it's no surprise that he's winning with 44 votes. Still, Pohatu Mata is only a few votes behind with 36, so he's still running for first. Matau, on the other hand, is a distant third.

    Round 2 Commentary 1 View 6

This race is a bit closer than some of the others. Jaller Mahri holds a slight lead with 37 votes, but Toa Ignika has 31 and Nokama Metru has 28, so it's entirely possible one of those two could pull in an upset and claim victory. Jaller can't call this one a win yet.

    Round 2 Commentary 1 View 7

Matoro Mahri has the distinction of being the Toa to sacrifice himself and that's given him popularity. (Although I personally would argue that his Mahri design wasn't the best, but my opinion doesn't match with the votes, clearly.) Matoro holds his lead with 41 votes. His competition is Takanuva 2008 at 28 votes and Mata Nui at 27 votes. Will Matoro not allow himself to be sacrificed for the good of the Great Spirit this time? Perhaps so.

    Round 2 Commentary 1 View 8

Lhikan holds a healthy lead with 63 votes, and Nuju and Nuparu are unlikely to match him any time soon. This also puts Lhikan as the only Toa Metru design to currently be in the lead, which is surprising because the Metru did so well previously. And with Nuparu's likely defeat, along with Whenua's earlier, this means that no Toa of Earth are likely to move on to the next round.

    Round 2 Commentary 1 View 9

Lewa Nuva holds the final lead with 57 votes. Matau Hordika and Hewkii Inika are trying to give him a run for his money, but I don't think either will be able to overtake him. Lewa moving on would make him the only Nuva to progress, since Gali is unlikely to make it. And with Hewkii's defeat (and presuming Pohatu doesn't pull an upset) it's even more unlikely that we'll see a Toa of Stone in the next round. Matau Hordika only got in on a slim win, but I must say I'm surprised that he's gotten 15 votes as is.

There's still a couple of weeks left before the round closes, and more than a few of these races are neck to neck, so we might see some changes in winners when the final numbers come in. It you haven't had a chance, please make sure to vote for your favorites, and check back in March for the results and the next round!
