Most Bionicle MOCs tend to lean towards the Toa sizes, but one of the fun parts about the original run of the theme was the various Matoran populating the world of Mata Nui and beyond. Well, back in May, a bunch of talented builders took to creating smaller Matoran designs in their Hardworking Citizens collab. There are a lot of fun and clever builds, so read on to check them all out.

Astro the Explorer by Ryan Z

    Astro the Explorer

This guy looks like he's ready to explore space in his hefty suit. The inclusion of the dome over the mask is nice, but I also really like the giant fingers too.

Koto the Ice Carver by Socketball

    Koto the Ice Carver

This guy has some interesting designs in his feet and arms, which look similar to the old McToran throwing arms with their long, slightly curved shape. The gear piece on the feet is an interesting choice too. Plus, I do like that custom Hau mask.

    Blacksmith Uroc by Matt Goldberg

    Blacksmith Uroc

The first thing that jumps out to me here is the hand piece used for the lower torso, and it works. He's got a good pose for the blacksmith, and the inclusion of the goggles on the Matatu mask is great.

    Woodworker Liku by Cornbuilder

    Woodworker Liku

The Matoran build looks quite simple on this one, but the saw and wood stand really bring the whole thing together with excellent posing that easily showcases his profession.

    Chief Engineer Nuparu by Djokson

    Chief Engineer Nuparu

Nuparu is armored up here; whereever he's going to work, it must be dangerous. The giant arms are also reminiscent of the McToran arms, only this time with more articulation. The fancy pick design is also impressive.

    The Bored Lifeguard by Dviddy

    The Bored Lifeguard

The Matoran here was a nice design, but the pose along with the hefty beach chair really sells the scene. Although I guess she doesn't have a lot of work to do since Ga-Matoran are already good swimmers. Maybe she's at a Po-Wahi beach.

    Lumberjack Ligon by Johann Dakitsch

    Lumberjack

He's a lumberjack and he's okay. The bulky jacket works for showing off a strong character, and the axe is great at this scale. Hopefully he won't cut down the entire jungle.

    Glassblower Papaka by Ivan Martnov

    Glassblower Papaka

There are a lot of interesting pieces used on this character (some of which I don't even recognize) but he still has a good flow to him. Although my favorite part is the tubing in the mouth.

Railroad Worker Onewa by Max Howell

    Railroad Worker Onewa

This guy has a very interesting body design, but he looks very well equipped for his job. I do like the gear elements featured in the shoulders, and the axles with stoppers make for great railroad spikes.

    Talented Sculptor Poraru by Pohaturon

    Talented Sculptor Poraru

This carver has a simple design that makes nice use of the Stormtrooper skirt and a good pose. I also really like the simple work table, and the use of the pen Kakama mask as his sculpture is inspired. I also like the foot design that's very reminiscent of the original McToran feet.

    The Astrologer by Buttloaf_Builds

    The Astrologer

This astrologer ended up going a little mad, and per classic Bionicle mishaps, this led to them having a very unusual body. The elegant flow along the arms works, and the incorporation of the clear Kaukau in the body is nice.

Hahma, Mask Smith by Cody Avery

    Hahma, Mask Smith

This smith makes good use of the cloth element to make his robe. The orange and azure color scheme does work nicely, and for a simple build he poses quite well.

    Lightstone Miner by Eero Okkonen

    Lightstone Miner

Old Technic purple is a hard color to build in, given that it doesn't appear in a lot of pieces. This guy makes a good use of the colors to fill out his torso and feet. I also like the inclusion of the satchel, the head lamp, and even the mini lightstone that he's found.

"Flying Fire" Vangaurd: Dabi by Toddrick

    "Flying Fire" Vangaurd: Dabi

Finally, we have this guard who has some cool designs. The extra thin boots are particularly funny, but I'm also impressed at how well the Av-Matoran torso looks with the various additions. The staff with the snakes on it also looks fun.

That wraps it up for a month's long feature of 2022 Bionicle MOCs from the BZPower Flickr page. I look forward to seeing what the community builds next year, and hopefully we'll have plenty more to feature on BZPower's front page in the future. Thanks again for stopping by and reading, and Happy New Year!
