    Bio-Cup 2022 Round One Part 4
Hot Bionicle NewsFriday, July 8th, 2022 at 5:55am by Jason, BZPower Reporter

Today we continue our coverage of Bio-Cup 2022 Round One. This time, we're looking at MOCs that focus heavily on tendrils, tentacles, vines, and the like. These MOCs tend to stray from traditional LEGO creations with smooth organic features that are more often than not a touch creepy too, but remain impressive designs. I was surprised at how many entries incorporated these features, so we've grouped a few up to show off today.

SPACE GODZILLA by The Whimsical Brick
    Subtheme: Extraterrestrial

    スペースゴジラ (SPACE GODZILLA)

Our first pick has a flowing head of hair / tentacles reaching up into the sky, but honestly the bits that stand out more are the crystalline structures that also feature in the wings and tail, which helps place this Kaiju in an alien world.

The jungle began to move… by AjRed17
    Subtheme: Beast

    The jungle began to move…

At first I thought this was supposed to be some sort of sloth beast, but then I realize that the various vines aren't supposed to be fur but rather roots, as the forest has risen up into this beast to go stalk the jungles. While a brown color may have worked better than black, it does have an earthy organic feel of fertile soil.

Vessel of the Interdimensional Innards, Formerly a Common Frog by pierthviv
    Subtheme: Cosmic Horror

Vessel of the Interdimensional Innards, formerly a common frog

This cosmic horror is almost indecipherable, but it appears the beast is trying to deal with all its guts pouring out. There are a lot of very clever part usages here that give an organic flow to the creature, from the black tendrils to the mush of purple Krana and the red intestine tube falling out of the stomach. Moving beyond the gore, the eye surrounded by the Masks of Creation is nice, especially with the green ooze dripping down.

Nivhel the Devourer by Renzari Kenjo
    Subtheme: Cosmic Horror

    Nivhel the Devourer

Here is one of the celestials who seems to have a body made up entirely of vines. The overall black MOC benefits greatly from the sparkly Eternals blades spread out across it, including the mane. The editing with the mist over the tower is also a nice touch.

B-A-R-R-Y, the hungry extraterrestrial by Caleb Campion
    Subtheme: Extraterrestrial

    B-A-R-R-Y, the hungry extraterrestrial

Here's another guy who can't keep his insides where they belong. B.A.R.R.Y. uses some interesting pieces to give his tentacle-like appearance, including balloon elements, snakes, and capes. His organs falling out are quite disturbing, but not as much as his detailed face. Very creepy.

Progeny of Atum by Ivan Martynov
    Subtheme: Cosmic Horror

    Progeny of Atum

Here's another Kaiju that is almost all made out of vines. The white internal body appears very solid and traditional, but the black vines that shadow it are quite impressive, especially with the red highlights, and they make this floating entity rather ominous. Of course, the bleak city scape underneath it also deserves praise.

    Malentula's Nest by Vohdoff
    Subtheme: Insectoid

    Malentula's Nest

This is a giant bug we'd rather not come across. The tail elements on the legs give them an interesting shape, while the white armor pieces really sell the hairy body. The central nest obvious works to keep the whole thing upright, but also it fits perfectly with the scene. Those little tanks are about to be bug chow though.

    Cosmic Cradle by Obsessionist
    Subtheme: Cosmic Horror

    Cosmic Cradle

This is such a clever concept, with a vague black entity reaching out across the solar system and claiming the planets. The silver orbs floating off the back indicate that these planets might not have much longer to go. There are a lot of cool parts used here, from the zamor magazines to even the ripcord pieces at the base, and the clip elements giving the tendrils a very authentic flow on the top. Very well done.

    Aether Anomaly by gk 733
    Subtheme: Extraterrestrial

    Aether Anomaly

This creature has an amazing organic look that almost seems beyond the LEGO medium. The tendrils along the lower body and wings and neck all give it quite a presence, and the head is amazingly expressive. In addition to that, the black and white color scheme with just a hint of purple highlights works quite well. Awesome MOC. (Although that torn up astronaut might not think so highly of this Kaiju.)

The Outer God by Woomy World
    Subtheme: Cosmic Horror

    The Outer God

This entity also has such amazing shapes that it's hard to tell that it's built using LEGO pieces. The gappy arms are impressive and the lower half as a mass of tentacles is quite good, but the intricate details and coloring on the torso to give it a secondary face beneath the main massive eye... it's great. This MOC just has a great presence with its flow, colors, and parts usages. Very impressive... unless, you know, it's appearing to you in a waking nightmare, then it's very scary.

We've still got a lot more MOCs to feature from the Bio-Cup Round One, so make sure to stay tuned to BZPower to see more of them. There are a lot of impressive MOCs being entered this year for sure. I wonder who'll win the top spot?
