Bio-Cup 2022 Round One Part 2

We return to look at more Kaiju creations from Bio-Cup 2022 Round One. One way people tried to play up the size of their giant monsters was to make small designs of structures and landscapes. Microuilding is a common feature in LEGO MOCs, but it's not often that we see so much in a Bionicle contest. Today we'll look at some of the entries with exceptional microbuilds to compliment their Kaiju.
Hungering Storm by NateMakesMOCs Subtheme: Elemental
This is one of the more clever concepts, featuring a tornado monster made using a bunch of CCBS bone elements to recreate the swirling wind. (Plus the inclusion of a crafty face.) But my favorite is the microbuilt farmhouse, trees, and the hay rolls. Simple but effective.
Ant-Ticks by chilly bin Subtheme: Insectoid
The giant bug has a good color scheme going, nicely incorporating the swirl of black and yellow on the Bitil mask. The highway overpass it's attacking is also exceptional and really sets the scale.
Flaiju by Knux 400 Subtheme: Insectoid
This giant moth monster may not be the most complex of creations, but it has a classic Bionicle feel to it. However, this MOC has what I think is the best microscale town in the contest so far, with incredible builds like the hospital, water tower, basketball court, and even a building on fire after the monster stepped on it. It makes for a really great scene.
Painappuru by JimiFurno Subtheme: Aquatic
This aquatic monster makes a good use of bright orange pieces to make it stand out, but I am very impressed with the underwater castle, which has some cool usages of Bionicle Rahkshi pieces incorporated into it's vibrant design. A really cool depiction of an undersea monster siege.
Kuranpu, Terror of the Deep by MrMonopoly Subtheme: Aquatic
Another aquatic lobster is attacking people, and the 07 Glow in the Dark blue pieces really pop. I also like the industrial towers made using Bionicle elements like the rhotuka, aero slicer, and Visorak feet. And although it's not technically part of the build, the ocean background edit is good too.
The Mountainhopper by The Underscored Double Subtheme: Insectoid
I always like a good treehopper MOC, and this is a fun depiction of the insect as a giant. That mouth design is also very creepy. The mini trees and cabin are a fun touch to show the bug's size.
Xamura, Star Guardian by Cody Avery Subtheme: Mythological
The giant turtle is quite impressive, with such details like the repeating patterns on the shell and the expressive face. Even the use of the CCBS shells to form a wave of water on the tail are a nice touch. But the little building designs are also top notch, and really gives the whole Kaiju vibe to the creation.
The Inkanyamba | Blesser of Rains, Legend of Thunder by Brandon.Builds Subtheme: Mythological
This sky creature is very impressive, and there's some very excellent color blocking on the underbelly that looks great. The small builds of the African village help set the scene for this mythological monster.
Kids Grow Up So Fast by Brick Brickolson Subtheme: Extraterrestrial
This is an incredible play of the theme, with having a youngling Kaiju smash a mini sand castle. The kid has a lot of impressive designs, from his outfit and hat to toy flying saucer. I'm sure he'll grow up into a professional castle wrecker when he comes of age.
Molethra by Jayfa Subtheme: Beast
This mole monster, besides being an unusual take on the theme, has some amazing textures incorporated into the fur, with the zip line elements making excellent whiskers. The torn up road scene works great with this burrowing beast.
We've still got a lot more MOCs to feature from the Bio-Cup Round One, so make sure to stay tuned to BZPower to see more of them. There are a lot of impressive MOCs being entered this year for sure. I wonder who'll win the top spot?
