    Bio-Cup 2022 Preliminary Round Part 1
Hot Bionicle NewsWednesday, June 1st, 2022 at 2:49am by Jason, BZPower Reporter

Bio-Cup 2022 has begun, and people are currently entering their MOCs into the Preliminary Round with the theme of Nature. Many builders like to wait until the last minute to enter, to give them more time to perfect their model and to also keep each other in suspense. But luckily for us, a good number of people have already submitted their models, so it's time for us to take a first look at the contest entries. Read on to see a selection of some of the MOCs, and let us know which ones are your favorites.

The Sea of Corruption by Tino Poutiainen

    The Sea of Corruption

This is a vibrant model and I like the theme of circular fungi surrounding the mask. Finding the Bionicle elements hidden throughout the model is fun too.

The Building Blocks of Life by GB

    The Building Blocks of Life

This build of DNA is incredibly simple but the presentation is extremely effective and it pulls off the idea with a relatively low parts count. Quite impressive.

    Sunflower by Ted Andes

    Sunflower

At first glance, I thought this was a very simple flower model. And to be fair, it is not overly complex. Still, once I realized that the flower pedals are made from Vahki eyestalks, I couldn't help but be impressed. Pterodactyl wings as the leaves are cool too.

    Avian Bonsai by Woomy World

    Avian Bonsai

The flow of this bird is majestic, with a crazy realistic feather design. The tree has its own smooth flow, and I like how the two merge together. Very impressive; I think this one is already a winner!

    Bullfinch by Oscar Cederwall

    Bullfinch

Here's another bird, and this Bullfinch goes for a more simple but effective design, but still captures the shape of the bird clutching to a fragile branch.

    Permian Period by Ivan Martynov

    Permian Period

Here are a couple of cool prehistoric creatures. The lizard-like creature has some great portions, but the head is easily my favorite part.

    Raijin by MySnailEatsPizza

    Raijin

This display is pretty impressive, with the micro landscape, storm clouds, and drummer guy with a fantastic head design. Nice incorporation of LEGO Dimensions parts.

    Manambulus Perhorridus by Brick Brickolson

    Manambulus Perhorridus''

I'm glad that this bunny is a piece of fiction, because it would be quite scary to come across. Beyond the whole horror vibe, this model has a lot of cool part usage, the best of which is the Galidor ears.

Human Nature: Id, Ego, and Superego by SpaceBunny609

Human Nature: Id, Ego, and Superego

This is a more abstract rendition of the Nature theme, but it does the job quite well. The characters each have unique designs that give off distinct moods and help pull the whole thing together. Very symbolic.

The Cruelty of Nature by MrMonopoly

    The cruelty of nature

It may just be a straight up tree, but I really like the intricate way the brown Bionicle elements have been meshed together while still giving this a solid look. (The poor dying tree in the background probably disagrees.)

    Waterfall by krs_bionicle

    Waterfall

I'm a sucker for good Bionicle landscape MOCs, and this does a good job at capturing the cliffs, the waterfall, and the foliage around it. I particularly like the Kohrok shields as water foam, and the sneaky mask hidden behind the waterfall is a nice touch.

    Ophiocordyceps Unilateralis by Mattia Careddu

    Ophiocordyceps Unilateralis

Not all nature is pretty, and this fungi is taking out this bug. This one uses good color blocking to differentiate the bug, the fungi, and the plant.

    Gäa Nui by Panuvara

    Gäa Nui

I'm honestly not quite sure what this is supposed to be, but the complex shaping gives it a very flowing experience and does look like the embodiment of life. The pond design is quite fun too, especially with all the masks mixed in.

Self-Portrait as a Wooden Man by Eero Okkonen

    Self-Portrait as a Wooden Man

This is such an expressive Ent, with a lot of cool bark detailing on the feet and torso. But the giant mustache on the head and the curious look he's giving the gear really sell it. Great stuff.

We've got a lot more MOCs to feature from the Bio-Cup Preliminary Round, so make sure to stay tuned to BZPower to see more of them. There are a lot of impressive MOCs being entered this year for sure. I wonder who'll win the top spot?
