Bio-Cup 2021 Round 3
Thursday, August 12th, 2021 at 5:14am by Jason, BZPower Reporter
The 2021 Bio-Cup is in it's final day, and soon the grand winner will be announced. But real quick, let us travel back to three weeks ago, when food was the focus. Mealtime was the theme for the third round of Bio-Cup, the Semi-Finals. Read on to eat up all the delicious MOCs.
Surf n Turf Kebab with a side of Couscous by DanielBrickSon Subtheme: Lunch
It's strange, as the pool of potential Redemption Round builders increases, the number of entries decrease. I guess the competition can only ruin so many vacations. This delectable lunch is the RR Winner, and makes some fun use of Bionicle elements to create the kebabs. The corn and lemon wedges are nice, but the bowl of couscous looks the most delectable.
Bed in Breakfast by lache Subtheme: Breakfast
Sometimes you just want something simple in the morning, even if you get it in bed. But what happens when your breakfast is the bed?? The little dog character tucked in beneath the egg is neat, and finally the organic shapes of the Nuva masks become useful as leafy greens. Quite something to wake up to.
Nakki by buttloaf_builds Subtheme: Breakfast
Do you like bacon or ham for breakfast? This croc does. The Exo Force arms that define the snout are very impressive, and the gruesome remains of the pig show that he has had quite a good meal.
How Do You Like Your Eggs by Yannick Godts Subtheme: Breakfast
There can only be one Breakfast of Champions, and this is the MOC that progressed. And of course it's a 24 Diner mech. The lettering on the sign is cool, and the greebled mechanical limbs fit in quite well for this mechanical menace. Of course, the best highlight is the conveyer belt of eggs, including the one that's about the fall off the edge. Quite fin.
Picnic Raider by VelociJACKtor Subtheme: Lunch
Bugs always seem to ruin a picnic. And it's especially bothersome when they're man sized and have an appetite! The bug has some great flow to it's design, and the dark blue Skull Spider masks fit in nicely. This kebob is a bit simpler but the picnic blanket is a nice touch. You'd better hope this insect doesn't ruin your lunch!
Turbochef 9000 by Alex Mertens Subtheme: Lunch
Robots will have to do so many jobs for us in the future, and Turbochef 9000 will be in charge of making our fast food, looks like. The various arms have some fun mechanic designs to them that give them a very futuristic look, with some nice touches as it moves the foot along and operates the oven in the base of it's wheels. The mouth devouring the money is a little concerning, however... I guess lunch will be pretty costly in the future.
The Picnic by B.D. Subtheme: Lunch
The best lunch, and the one that moves forward, is this Venus Fly trap. It looks like the little bug dude is having his lunch interrupted. His build has a clever krana torso and apparently Clickit eyes, and his simply expression really displays his surprise. And of course he's surprised because a giant, black Venus fly trap has somehow snuck up behind him, making up one creepy bonsai tree. The various fine heads use a bunch of dragon jaw pieces quite well, and the flowery capes add a nice splash of color.
Shrimp Fried Rice by alex_mocs Subtheme: Dinner
I very much liked the pun in the title here. The food designs here are quite simple; a bunch of ice cream and food elements stuffed in a variety of wheels, which must have been tire-some to put together. But of course, the Shrimp Chef steals the show, with his various arms and fancy head topped with a chef's hat. Order's up, get it while it's hot!
Fishan & Chippy by Ryan Z. Subtheme: Dinner
I'll be honest, I was a little confused about these at first... they're food mascots or something? But then I looked closer and the details are quite impressive. They have some interesting leg designs that give them character and also make some good use of Kanohi. The french fry guy is neat, especially with the eyes built in, and the red sleeve is shaped well. But the real show stealer is the fish head, which has some amazing details on it, from the lips to the fins to the skeleton sticking out the back. A very impressive pair!
Date Night by Djokson Subtheme: Dinner
You should probably be concerned if you show up for date night and there's only one plate. Also if your date is a hungry female mantis! The premise is nicely set up, but the build also has a certain elegance to it, from the female mantis's decor to the candlelit table. I'm sure she'll enjoy the meal, and this makes for a great winning entry.
And that's it for the semi-finals. The judges will be selecting the winner of the final match up soon, so we have one more story of MOCs left for Bio-Cup 2021! Stay tuned!
