    Bio-Cup 2021 Round 1 Part 4
Hot Bionicle NewsSunday, July 4th, 2021 at 3:43am

Coverage continues for MOCs from Bio-Cup 2021's Round 1. Today we're looking at some of the MOCs that won and whose builders have continued into Round 2. There are a lot of impressive MOCs, so read on to take a look at some of them!

Meara the Metalworks Tiger by DanielBrickSon

    Meara the Metalworks Tiger

This sculpture is very impressive. Despite all the greeble included it looks quite solid, and the details of the tiger are easily apparent. Plus, it's impressive that it's balanced all on one paw. There are also some clever usages of silver parts in there that blend in so well I didn't notice them at first.

Christ the Great Spirit by Will Kessler

    Christ the Great Spirit

At a glance, this model seemed to get an easy win, as it was against two relatively simple designs. But the details on this still make it worthy of the win, with the pose making it instantly recognizable as a Mask of Life version of the "Christ the Redeemer" statue from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The design on the arms is simple but effective, and I like the inclusion of the base with the various visitors.

    The Veiled by buttloaf_builds

    The Veiled

Although these two characters are small, they're still both highly detailed. The demon has a lot of good flowing elements in his design, and the cowboy is amazingly simple but it works so well. On top of that, the posing of the characters really gives a dramatic feel to the presentation.

    The Apostle by Max Howell
    Subtheme: Comics

    The Apostle

This has a sleek look to it. As I am not familiar with the source manga, it took me a whole to realize that this is not a rider and mount but rather one being. (Or at least I think it is, I'll play my ignorance card if I'm still wrong.) The flow between the two parts is nice, and I really like the beat's main head, although the flowing hair on the second head is also well done.

    Captain Haddock by Just Torp
    Subtheme: Comics

    Captain Haddock

Captain Haddock from the Tintin comics is instantly recognizable, and the CCBS shells really work with his bulky jacket arms. There's a lot of nice details mixed in here, like the pipe, the anchor on the shirt, and the clips to give the beard texture. A very impressive sculpture.

Kaza-Hem, the Eruptor Worm by Cody Avery
    Subtheme: Comics

    Kaza-Hem, the Eruptor Worm

Do I need to know the source material to appreciate a monster worm like this? Nope, not really. The dark blue and spring green go together really well, and the jagged CCBS shells give it some interesting texture. The base is also quite clever, giving a real sense of movement with the shattering floor. But I think my favorite detail is the eyes behind the minifig monster shell.

Psalms of the Forgotten by awesomenessborn

    Psalms of the Forgotten

The architecture here is quite impressive, especially due to the technic and Bionicle elements included, like the arch of gears. The futuristic organs are quite nice, but my favorite details are the little robots at the base and the stained glass windows.

The Devil Went Down to Georgia by VelociJACKtor
    Subtheme: Music

The Devil Went Down To Georgia

There were indeed two entries based on this song, and this is the one that progressed. Johnny is basic but certainly has the farm boy look going for him. Meanwhile, the devil looming over him has a very clever face and an interesting torso design that gives him an otherworldly appearance. On top of that, their instruments are greatly detailed at that scale. A very impressive match up.

    Stars and Sun by Obsessionist
    Subtheme: Painting / Drawing

    Stars and Sun

Peacocks always make for cool models, and two of them representing abstract artwork are even better! The crazy repeated use of elements in the tails are all quite impressive, and there's some great color blocking going on. Even the details like the tree stump and flowers good a good job of pulling this scene together.

Whatcha Gonna do When the Chips are Down? By JimiFurno
    Subtheme: Theatre / Performing Arts

Whatcha Gonna do When the Chips are Down...?

The scene set up here is really well done, with the white "ghosts" floating around a mourning character. Even though the characters are lacking actual faces to express with, their posing really conveys the sense of emotion. And honestly getting that pile of white elements together around a Barakki canister base must have taken some time too.

    Rigoletto by Yannick Godts
    Subtheme: Theatre / Performing Arts

    RIGOLETTO

Okay, the giant clown head is immediately creepy, but the details in the face (and especially the eyes) are quite stellar. The hands are also nicely done, and I'm impressed by how much it looks like the original. A very cool design, even if it might continue to haunt my dreams for weeks now.

    Zeruel by lache
    Subtheme: TV / Film (Animation)

    Zeruel Teaser Image

Evangelion had lots of cool monsters, and this one looks remarkable intimidating, with its tendrils waving in the winds. Although the body is well done with a nice organic flow to it, I really like the inclusion of the landscape elements to really set the scale. With this creature, humanity is certainly doomed.

Zagreus vs the Bone Hydra by Silvak the Mocist
    Subtheme: Video Games

    Zagreus vs the Bone Hydra

The scene is set up nicely, with the platforms and the hero ready to fight. But the heads on the monsters are what really steal the show, with very impressive details around the eyes and horns. Very creepy. Good luck to the player going against them!

We've not quite done with MOCs to feature from Bio-Cup Round 1, so make sure to stay tuned to BZPower to see more of them. The entries this year are just getting better and better!
