We've got more MOCs to cover from Bio-Cup 2021's Round 1. This batch didn't make the cut either, but have a lot of cool details that are worth showing off. The subthemes we're visiting today are Paintings / Drawings, Theatre / Performing Arts, and TV / Film Animations. Read on to see the MOCs.
The Art of Inception by Blue Moon Mocist Subtheme: Painting / Drawing
There are a lot of interesting bits in this robotic painter. The solid color scheme, the detailed painting supplies, the fun cyclops eye are all nice. But the real standout is the portal through the easels and the use of the printed shell to demonstrate the paintbrush. Very nice.
Many Masks and Few True Faces by Petersheikah Subtheme: Painting / Drawing
There's a fun concept explored here. The main body mostly makes good use of a cape cloth but the tie looks really nice. However, my favorite details are in the spare heads on the table. Pretty neat.
Memento Mori by Radar Subtheme: Theatre / Performing Arts
Skeletons have been done a lot, but this one is still quite well done. I like the custom built limb bones, including the forearm, and the rib cage containing the fire is a nice touch. And the loose pieces on the ground for the grave work out too.
Shadow Dance by Andrew Malta Subtheme: Theatre / Performing Arts
Honestly I didn't quite know what I was looking at here, thinking it was supposed to be some sort of creepy shadow dog. But then I realized it's supposed to be a performer playing a large animal, like the Lion King stage show, and I better appreciate all the little designs that are built around Luke to give him a good performance as a background giraffe. A very clever concept and well executed too.
Modern Outbreak of Rhinoceritis by Nuhvok_mok Subtheme: Theatre / Performing Arts
It's not the most complicated build, but I like the simple design of the rhino man with a torch. The head does a great job of showing off the animal, but I also appreciate the big white belly. This is a working class rhino dude out to join a mob, apparently.
Shrek the Musical by pierthviv Subtheme: Theatre / Performing Arts
I guess there was a Shrek musical? Anyway, that's what this is based on. Shrek himself looks pretty good and recognizable from his animated counterpart, and in addition to the crazy detailed head, I like the Bohrok vest and the shirt made using tan garage door elements. Donkey looks far more like a guy in a animal suit, but the texture of the loose axles in the belly is neat. Plus, the background dragon eye is a nice touch and brings this scene together.
Galaxy Convoy by Student Scissors Subtheme: TV / Film (Animation)
Transformers has been made with LEGO a lot before, but this one is quite detailed for it's size. The overall shape quickly sells who this character is, and I like the head and the angles plates on the chest. Shame it doesn't actually transform into a truck, but it's still very good.
Fabrication Unit-IX by AjRed17 Subtheme: TV / Film (Animation)
Just what kind of mechanical terrors do you fear in the dark. I like the spindly nature of this model with it's various tools out to cause mischief, and the round "eye" looks quite good. Quite scary.
Avatar Skeith by BetaNotus Subtheme: TV / Film (Animation)
I'm not familiar with the game this is from, but I still appreciate the unconventional character. The short body and weird face looks nice, but my favorite part is the weapon with it's nice curved elements. I'm not sure how practical it would be, but it looks nice.
Koh the Face Stealer by BuckaChew Subtheme: TV / Film (Animation)
Koh was certainly one of the creepier characters from AtLA, and the recreation here works quite well. I like the centipede-like body, but the clever use of the Star Wars head is the best part of the design. Better not show any emotion, or he'll steal your face next.
We've got a lot more MOCs to feature from Bio-Cup Round 1, so make sure to stay tuned to BZPower to see more of them. The entries this year are just getting better and better!
