Toys "R" Us To Try Another Comeback

Until online shopping turned a few companies into retail juggernauts, if you wanted to buy toys you went to Toys "R" Us. After filing for bankruptcy in 2017 and closing all of their US stores, the brand was purchased by Tru Kids who opened two locations in malls in Texas and New Jersey in 2019. Then a pandemic happened and no one went to malls, resulting in both of those locations closing down as well. But now, as reported by CNBC, WHP Global has purchased a controlling interest in the Toys "R" Us, Babies "R" Us, and Geoffrey the Giraffe brands and plans to open locations in the US again before the holiday shopping season. As someone with many fond memories of visiting the store as a kid, it's great to see the brand returning, but we'll have to see if brick and mortar toy stores can stand up to the ubiquity of Walmart, Target, and Amazon.
