Day 24 - Swamps of Secret, a Mistika Collab
BZPowerSaturday, December 26th, 2020 at 11:54am by Jason, BZPower Reporter

2020 has been a hectic year in many ways, but we've seen some great Bionicle creations pop up, despite the theme being long since retired. From Bio Cup to the Canon Contests, there's been some great MOCs out there, and now we're looking to share a few more. And so we're going to try something a little different this month; instead of featuring images from a LEGO Advent calendar, we're instead going to feature Bionicle MOCs from this year. I spent some time browsing through the BZPower Flickr page and handpicked some of my favorite builds, and I'll be posting one a day for 24 days (sorta) straight!

Day 24 - Swamps of Secret, a Mistika Collab

    Karda Nui Collab 3

We're at the end of our month-long run of featured MOCs, and we're going to finish things off by looking at revamps from the second half of the 2008 Bionicle storyline. Following the Phantoka, Swamps of Secret, a Mistika Collab recreates the other classic characters in some really impressive MOCs, made all the better with excellent background editing. Read on to marvel at these builds by Grayson, The Underscored Double, LemonNade, Brick_Diamonds, buttloaf, Space Glove, Iggs, Sparks, and Sergei Rahkmaninoff.

    Krika by Grayson

    Krika

The original Krika set was quite slender, but this one has the Makuta really beefing up. The bulked out torso really makes him more intimidating, and I like the bone elements added to his white spikes to really give them a more skeletal feel that is extra sinister. This is now a Makuta who you'd want to face!

    Gorast by The Underscored Double

    Gorast

Gorast looks adequately creepy with her insectoid look. The wings from the Ant-Man set work great here, and I particularly like the detailing of the minifig hands on the limbs. Very wasp-like and not something I'd like to see flying towards me!

    Bitil by LemonNade

    Bitil

Bitil has some elegant curves built into his new design, from his tentacle-like legs to his bowed torso. He looks more like a mantis than a beetle here, but the look totally works, and the yellow ribcage really stands out here.

    Tahu by Brick_Diamonds

    Tahu

This Tahu has a really elegant flow to him that the original set was missing. The limbs really mesh together, and the torso is far more reminiscent of the Nuva version, tall and proud. He even has the vents attached to his back to recreate his jets from the set, and the blue flame from the tip of his weapon is a nice touch.

    Gali by buttloaf

    Gali

The original Gali Mistika set was one of the oddest, but this one takes a different approach and makes her torso super slim, giving her a lean robotic look. But her boots are extra reinforced, given that's where her flying jets are attached. The highlight is the impressive weapon she carries, an improvement over the Nynrah Ghost Blaster from the original set.

    Onua by Space Glove

    Onua

This Onua looks very impressive and down to earth. The new mask design is great and keeps with his hunched back appearance. The shoulder fin jets are a nice touch, and I think they also match nicely with his new shield.

    Vultraz by Iggs

    Vultraz

What's a Mistika collab without a good Skyfighter? Vultraz appears her on a fancy vehicle with some nice uses of the wing and shield panels. Vultraz himself has a neat small Matoran build that still makes him look buffer than the standard villager. Fun stuff!

    Mazeka by Sparks

    Mazeka

Mazeka isn't pulling any punches with this impressive Swamp Strider. While it captures the basic look or the original, the limbs are super muscular this time and just radiate power, and the green blasters looks like it could easy blow through the Makuta.

    Takanuva by Sergei Rahkmaninoff

    Takanuva

The original 2008 Takanuva set was quite bulky, but this model slims him down a bit while keeping the touch of shadows with the good use of gunmetal pieces. I particular like the angles of the torso and upper legs, and the inclusion of the gold weapon to hark back to his origins as the Toa of Light works nicely.

That's the end of our run, thanks for checking on BZPower for the last couple of weeks. Stayed tuned for more LEGO news, reviews, and hopefully some more featured Bionicle MOCs as the new year rolls in!
