Day 23 - Shadows in the Sky, a Phantoka Collab
BZPowerFriday, December 25th, 2020 at 4:16am by Jason, BZPower Reporter

2020 has been a hectic year in many ways, but we've seen some great Bionicle creations pop up, despite the theme being long since retired. From Bio Cup to the Canon Contests, there's been some great MOCs out there, and now we're looking to share a few more. And so we're going to try something a little different this month; instead of featuring images from a LEGO Advent calendar, we're instead going to feature Bionicle MOCs from this year. I spent some time browsing through the BZPower Flickr page and handpicked some of my favorite builds, and I'll be posting one a day for 24 days (sorta) straight!

Day 23 - Shadows in the Sky, a Phantoka Collab

    Karda Nui Collab 1

In case it hasn't been obvious, I'm a sucker for a good recreation of a classic Bionicle set. And that makes Shadows in the Sky, a Phantoka Collab all the more impressive, as many skilled builders have come together to recreate all the main characters from the first half of the 2008 storyline. Read on to see all the amazing builds by Cody Avery, VelociJACKtor, alex_mocs, Dakitsch, Poor Disadvantaged, Pohaturon, Dviddy, _CZQ_, and Marko.

    Antroz by Cody Avery

    Antroz, the Living Blight

Antroz looks great with his new giant wings, making his flight mode seem a bit more organic than in the set. I also like the new design around his tridax pod.

    Vamprah by VelociJACKtor

    Vamprah

Vamprah was always a unique set with a less-than-humanoid build, and this MOC takes it even further. The elegant curved wings really stand out, but the spikes down the back of the body also sell this character. Wouldn't want to see him swoop down out of the skies towards me!

    Chirox by alex_mocs

    Chirox

Chirox just oozes character, as well as oozing out from his base. This MOC makes great use of black vines to make Chirox look like he is forming from shadow tendrils. Other highlights include the detailed chest and shoulders.

    Lewa by Johann Dakitsch

    Lewa Teaser Image

Lewa looks prepped to take the battle to the skies. The silver and lime flow together nicely, and I like the beefed up jetpacks on his back to assist his flight. And, of course, the inclusion of his classic Air Katanas is always a plus!

    Kopaka by Poor Disadvantaged

    Kopaka

Kopaka looks very regal in his armored getup. The crazy torso design with the blue heartlight looks nice and complex and offers him a lot of protection against the Makuta. In addition to the fun sword and shield designs, I particularly like the Hero Factory tile held over his mask.

    Pohatu by Pohaturon

    Pohatu

    Pohatu - altmode

I'll admit, I was a little bit confused by this Pohatu at first; it looks like he took the helicopter motif too far, even including the cockpit built into his torso. Well, it is all the more impressive when I realized he could transform into a full on helicopter. Very creative!

    Mutran and Vican by Dviddy

    Mutran and Vican

Mutran's slim look here really works, and I like the skirt / lab coat that ends with dark shadow tendrils. The addition of the goggles on the mask and the kraata on the shoulder are a plus. Vican also has a spindly look of a shadow Matoran, and makes for a good assistant.

    Toa Ignika by _CZQ_

    Toa Ignika

Toa Ignika is a bit more basic compared to some of the others, but the simpler design works for him and flows well. I especially like the arm cannon, and the skyboard is neat too.

    Icarax by Marko

    Icarax

This variation of Icarax is super intimidating. While the majority of the torso and limbs flow quite nicely, the chaotic chest with the glowing orange arm popping out of the center really sells the character. The wings and horned mask, which would be the highlights of any other MOC, almost seem secondary here; the model is just that good!

Stay tuned for more cool Bionicle MOCs as the month continues!
